MY THOUGHTS

ALIVE 2020 Tumblr posts - Tumbral.comWOW! I’m impressed! The first zombie movie I actually enjoyed. Let’s start from the beginning … So on one of our date nights my boyfriend was browsing Netflix for something to watch together, and he found this one. I wasn’t really excited…because of zombies(I hate Zombies with a passion), but when I saw the actors…alive (2020) | Explore Tumblr Posts and Blogs | TumgirI knew we NEED to watch it. I loved Yoo Ah-In in Chicago Typewriter and the darling Park Shin-Hye (she was in kdramas like –Pinocchio , Flower Boy Next Door, Heartstrings) is my favorite actress EVER! And guys…THIS WAS AMAZING. Truly! The story was very interesting, and it had a unique thing- most of the “action” happens in an apartment complex. Was it gory? Yes! Was it overall gory? Yes and No! Like, it was bearable even for me a person who gets scared pretty easily. Overall I would recommend for you to check it out.

Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake (Love By Numbers #1) by Sarah MacLean -book review

joanna-kosinska-kKfVAvdBsAw-unsplash

6584134A lady does not smoke cheroot. She does not ride astride. She does not fence or attend duels. She does not fire a pistol, and she never gambles at a gentlemen’s club.

Lady Calpurnia Hartwell has always followed the rules, rules that have left her unmarried—and more than a little unsatisfied. And so she’s vowed to break the rules and live the life of pleasure she’s been missing.

But to dance every dance, to steal a midnight kiss—to do those things, Callie will need a willing partner. Someone who knows everything about rule-breaking. Someone like Gabriel St. John, the Marquess of Ralston—charming and devastatingly handsome, his wicked reputation matched only by his sinful smile.

If she’s not careful, she’ll break the most important rule of all—the one that says that pleasure-seekers should never fall hopelessly, desperately in love.

OVERALL – 3,9/5 STARS

My first historical romance of the year! And it was pretty good...long, but good(and very quotable ) I read it in one sitting. The story was interesting, I liked Callie and Gabriel together (they did have amazing chemistry, so well done). Some parts did feel a little forced, but it didn’t spoil the story. Overall would recommend it if you love historical steamy romance.

FAVORITE QUOTES FROM THE BOOK

”Of course, one might argue that lurking in the darkness isn’t exactly ladylike.”
“Ah. There you have it wrong. I am not lurking in the darkness. I am hiding in it. Quite a different thing, altogether.”
❤“I shall endeavor to remember tea first, milk second. I should hate to cause another war between Britain and the Continent.”
❤
“You look quite lovely tonight.” Oxford leaned in, and his smile broadened. Was it possible that the man had more than the usual number of teeth?
❤“You forget one of the most important tenets of London society.”
“Which is?”
“Wealthy, unmarried marquesses are always welcome back into the light.”
❤
“Are you quoting the Bible to me?”
“Indeed,” she said primly, the portrait of piousness.
“While gambling.”
“What better location to attempt to reform one such as you?”
❤
“Never doubt how beautiful you are, Callie. For your beauty has quite ruined me for all others. And, frankly, I rather wish I’d found you years ago.”
❤
“Dear Lord,” Callie breathed.
“I’ve tried prayer myself,” Benedick said genially. “It doesn’t seem to work with her. I believe she’s made a deal with the Maker.”

February Wrap Up (What I read in February…ps-it’s not a lot)

Photo by Brigitte Tohm on Unsplash

Hello, Darlings! How are you all doing? How was your February? For me it was busy…and my health wasn’t the best(I felt tired emotionally and physically almost the whole month), so I didn’t get lots of reading this month. I read 3 books…yeah, just 3 books… not ideal. Let’s dive into the wrap-up.

Wrap Up!

I read this book in a day, very fast read. This was a pretty good story, I liked the writing style. Overall an amazing book, would recommend ( My full review you can read here )

This had the most unexpected ending I have read…Like…What?!This was SOO GOOd, so why not 5 stars? Because it lacked something, it just didn’t feel 5 stars. Overall I liked it and Lisa Jewell is slowly becoming my auto-buy author. (My full review you can read here)

Ahhh…I expected it to be better. This is a new release, so there isn’t lots of information or reviews about it , that’s why I got into this book blind. Overall it was a good, cute but still angsty romance about sibling rivalry. (3 stars)

The Mystery of Mrs. Christie by Marie Benedict -book review

joanna-kosinska-kKfVAvdBsAw-unsplash

54221749In December 1926, Agatha Christie goes missing. Investigators find her empty car on the edge of a deep, gloomy pond, the only clues some tire tracks nearby and a fur coat left in the car—strange for a frigid night. Her husband and daughter have no knowledge of her whereabouts, and England unleashes an unprecedented manhunt to find the up-and-coming mystery author. Eleven days later, she reappears, just as mysteriously as she disappeared, claiming amnesia and providing no explanations for her time away.

The puzzle of those missing eleven days has persisted. With her trademark exploration into the shadows of history, acclaimed author Marie Benedict brings us into the world of Agatha Christie, imagining why such a brilliant woman would find herself at the center of such a murky story.

jessica-ruscello-OQSCtabGkSY-unsplash

I will start first by saying that I love Agatha Christie ,her books are so dear to me(it was a big part of my childhood). So after seeing this title and reading this synopsis I knew this was something I would enjoy…and I truly did. This book highlighted interesting parts about Agatha’s life I didn’t know and the struggles of “perfect wives” that women were supposed to be. The mystery part was very well developed in my opinion, and the switching chapters from “now” to “then” was an intriguing part of the story. It’s told from multiple points of view ( Agatha’s and her Husband), and it did give the book an extra mystery element. Overall I really enjoyed it – 4 stars 🌟

Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell -book review(Spoiler free)

joanna-kosinska-kKfVAvdBsAw-unsplash50542147Owen Pick’s life is falling apart.

In his thirties, a virgin, and living in his aunt’s spare bedroom, he has just been suspended from his job as a geography teacher after accusations of sexual misconduct, which he strongly denies. Searching for professional advice online, he is inadvertently sucked into the dark world of incel—involuntary celibate—forums, where he meets the charismatic, mysterious, and sinister Bryn.

Across the street from Owen lives the Fours family, headed by mom Cate, a physiotherapist, and dad Roan, a child psychologist. But the Fours family have a bad feeling about their neighbor Owen. He’s a bit creepy and their teenaged daughter swears he followed her home from the train station one night.

Meanwhile, young Saffyre Maddox spent three years as a patient of Roan Fours. Feeling abandoned when their therapy ends, she searches for other ways to maintain her connection with him, following him in the shadows and learning more than she wanted to know about Roan and his family. Then, on Valentine’s night, Saffyre Maddox disappears—and the last person to see her alive is Owen Pick.

With evocative, vivid, and unputdownable prose and plenty of disturbing twists and turns, Jewell’s latest thriller is another “haunting, atmospheric, stay-up-way-too-late read” (Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author)Owen Pick’s life is falling apart.

This was…. unexpected. Everything from the start ,till the end. The writing style was good,we got multiple points of view. I usually hate it ,but in this story, it worked. This book gave an interesting insight and commentary on toxic masculinity and how we see it. I found it unique. The ending….wow , that was…VERY unexpected…like what?! Overall a great book, with an interesting story.

Hello My Darlings! And Welcome if you are new here,I’m Anna and I read a lot of books. So today we are talking about  THE BOOKS I got. I have too many books… unread books, and I still get more. The Vine Witch(The Vine Witch #1)by Luanne G. Smith

joanna-kosinska-kKfVAvdBsAw-unsplash

46015350. sy475 For centuries, the vineyards at Château Renard have depended on the talent of their vine witches, whose spells help create the world-renowned wine of the Chanceaux Valley. Then the skill of divining harvests fell into ruin when sorcière Elena Boureanu was blindsided by a curse. Now, after breaking the spell that confined her to the shallows of a marshland and weakened her magic, Elena is struggling to return to her former life. And the vineyard she was destined to inherit is now in the possession of a handsome stranger.

Vigneron Jean-Paul Martel naively favors science over superstition, and he certainly doesn’t endorse the locals’ belief in witches. But Elena knows a hex when she sees one, and the vineyard is covered in them. To stay on and help the vines recover, she’ll have to hide her true identity, along with her plans for revenge against whoever stole seven winters of her life. And she won’t rest until she can defy the evil powers that are still a threat to herself, Jean-Paul, and the ancient vine-witch legacy in the rolling hills of the Chanceaux Valley.

53375824

Every seven years, the Agon begins. As punishment for a past rebellion, nine Greek gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals, hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines, all eager to kill a god and seize their divine power and immortality.
Long ago, Lore Perseous fled that brutal world in the wake of her family’s sadistic murder by a rival line, turning her back on the hunt’s promises of eternal glory. For years she’s pushed away any thought of revenge against the man–now a god–responsible for their deaths.

Yet as the next hunt dawns over New York City, two participants seek out her help: Castor, a childhood friend of Lore believed long dead, and a gravely wounded Athena, among the last of the original gods.

First Beauty haul of the year(NEW SKINCARE)

Hello, My Darlings! It’s New year and I got some new stuff. Some of those products I have already tried and some not yet. Let’s dive into the goodies.

Disclaimer – I have oily acne-prone skin, so what works for me, can not work for you.

1.NEUTROGENA Skin Detox 2-in-1 Clay Wash Mask

I’m pretty happy with this one! As a daily wash, it has a nice cooling effect, easy to clean the face. As a face mask, this one is very interesting. It doesn’t dry on the face, the cooling effect doesn’t stop until you take it off, and even after that you still feel the tingling. Overall a nice product.

2.Garnier Pure Active Charcoal Peel-Off Mask 50ml

Ehhh…..I have mixed feelings about this one. Yes, I have tried it just once, so maybe my opinion will change. The problem is- it doesn’t peel off properly. If you didn’t put a generous amount on the area, it a pain to take off…But it does clean out the pores on the nose amazingly.

3.RdeL young profi palette eyeshadow

Very shiny, easy to swatch, has a light perfume scent. This was a gift, so still haven’t played with it really.

4.eco laboratorie argana hair oil

This works more like a hair mask than anything. Nice scent, lots of product, still have to try.

5.SVR Sebiaclear Gel Moussant 200ml

Nice face wash, nothing special. Light scent, gentle wash, helps with acne. It doesn’t contain alcohol or parabens. Suitable for sensitive skin.

6.Garnier Eye Makeup Remover 2 in 1

I know I know, everyone has tried it…but this my first eye makeup remover from Garnier. It has no scent, not extra greasy(and that’s good). Will see how I like it.

Firsts by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn -book review(and a little RANT)

joanna-kosinska-kKfVAvdBsAw-unsplash

23480844. sy475 Seventeen-year-old Mercedes Ayres has an open-door policy when it comes to her bedroom, but only if the guy fulfills a specific criteria: he has to be a virgin. Mercedes lets the boys get their awkward, fumbling first times over with, and all she asks in return is that they give their girlfriends the perfect first time- the kind Mercedes never had herself.

Keeping what goes on in her bedroom a secret has been easy- so far. Her absentee mother isn’t home nearly enough to know about Mercedes’ extracurricular activities, and her uber-religious best friend, Angela, won’t even say the word “sex” until she gets married. But Mercedes doesn’t bank on Angela’s boyfriend finding out about her services and wanting a turn- or on Zach, who likes her for who she is instead of what she can do in bed.

When Mercedes’ perfect system falls apart, she has to find a way to salvage her reputation and figure out where her heart really belongs in the process. Funny, smart, and true-to-life, FIRSTS is a one-of-a-kind young adult novel about growing up.

So basically it’s a story about a girl who is dealing with her trauma, it’s raw and not pretty. She thinks it’s the right thing to do, but in reality, it’s not. The writing was good, the setting was good too. I enjoyed this book, but my problem…is the ending.  The book didn’t keep everyone accountable for the mistakes they made, there was no therapist for Mercedes to deal with her trauma in a healthy way. Just lots of slut-shame. That’s my only complaint.

Rant(kind of)

This is not really about this book, but more about sex in Ya(young adult) books overall. In the last few years, I have seen a lot of sex in Ya, much more than there was before. Sometimes it’s appropriate(to the story), sometimes it’s not. Sometimes it opens up good discussions, and sometimes it’s not. I’m all about sexual liberation, there is nothing wrong about talking sex or having sex if you are a consenting adult. But when we are talking about actual children(yes, in my mind everyone under the age of 18 is a child), how far is too far? How can we open up a discussion, without promoting unhealthy behaviors. Would love to know your opinion about it.

Juno was wrong about Winnie Crouch.

Still, she isn’t one to judge. After her grim diagnosis, the retired therapist simply wants a place to live out the rest of her days in peace. But that peace is shattered the day Juno overhears a chilling conversation between Winnie and Nigel…

She shouldn’t get involved.

She really shouldn’t.

But this could be her chance to make a few things right.

Because if you thought Juno didn’t have a secret of her own, then you were wrong about her, too.

My first favorite of the year. This was unexpected, lots of twists and turns…but at the same time not creepy. The ending shocked me,and that’s pretty hard to do. Great book, would recommend if you want something more ‘real’in your thriller.
