“Truce? Hating Elijah Monroe” by Amelia Kingston – This book Made me Cry……(book review)

A small town enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy.

Harper Delaney is a newly certified elementary school teacher with the mountain of student loan debt to prove it. Moving back to her claustrophobically small hometown is about as tempting as two-week-old sushi, but the allure of free rent and a guaranteed summer teaching job are undeniable.

On the hunt for her dream job in San Francisco, Harper just needs to survive the summer without murdering Elijah Monroe. He may have grown into a scorchingly hot fireman, but he’s still her nemesis. Harper gave Elijah her heart when she was sixteen, and never forgave the jerk for not wanting it. Probably for the best, since he’s also her stepbrother.

Elijah still makes Harper’s blood boil and heart race. And he knows it. She’ll wipe that smug smirk off his gorgeous face before leaving town. The only question is if she wants to do it with a kiss or a slap.

Another 5star read?! Am I in book heaven?! This book was amazing…and hella short! I loved how clueless was Harper with the whole Elijah situation, the sexual tension in this book was INSANE and those sweet moments were just adorable. And it made me cry, this book made me cry ugly tears in the middle of the night. You know why? Because of the sweet ending…

Why isn’t it longer??? I need more, much more! Give me more!

Overall an amazing book, would recommend.

FAVORITE QUOTES FROM THE BOOK

Despite using my cheery teacher voice, my pep talk’s still not working. I’m better with optimistic six-year-olds.

No matter what I say, the sun will always rise and set on Elijah in his mother’s eyes. He could murder a puppy while setting an elementary school on fire and she’d still sing his praises. That’s what mothers do.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m a strong, independent woman. Who’s going to go eat a pint of ice cream in your honor.”

I know it’s been too long since I’ve had a date when my first thought at seeing a firetruck pull up outside the school isn’t Oh, no. Where’s the fire? but Oh, yes. Where are the firemen!

“Shut up. He’s always the one who starts it. Don’t take his side.”
“Not taking sides, darling. I’m just saying he’s not the only one with a razor-sharp tongue. You can hold your own.”

Bethany places her hand on her heart and smiles wide. “How fun. Those little ones are sweet, but they must be exhausting. I don’t know how you have the patience.”
“Easy. I’ve lived with Elijah Monroe. There’s no better practice for dealing with immaturity.

“But, it’s at Elijah’s fire station and I really need you to run interference.”
She cocks her head to the side and asks, “Interference?”
“Yeah, in case he starts in with the snide comments and I try to kill him.”
You know my favorite thing about you? Your emotional maturity. I’m so glad you’re state-certified to teach the future of America.”
