Changeling (Order of Darkness #1)by Philippa Gregory

Italy, 1453. Seventeen-year-old Luca Vero is brilliant, gorgeous—and accused of heresy. Cast out of his religious order for using the new science to question old superstitious beliefs, Luca is recruited into a secret sect: The Order of the Dragon, commissioned by Pope Nicholas V to investigate evil and danger in its many forms, and strange occurrences across Europe, in this year—the end of days.

Isolde is a seventeen-year-old girl shut up in a nunnery so she can’t inherit any of her father’s estate. As the nuns walk in their sleep and see strange visions, Isolde is accused of witchcraft—and Luca is sent to investigate her, but finds himself plotting her escape.

Despite their vows, despite themselves, love grows between Luca and Isolde as they travel across Europe with their faithful companions, Freize and Ishraq. The four young people encounter werewolves, alchemists, witches, and death-dancers as they head toward a real-life historical figure who holds the boundaries of Christendom and the secrets of the Order of the Dragon

OVERALL – 4/5 STARS

This one was a good surprise. The reviews were mixed, so I expected a 3 star read at most…but It was a solid 4! The story was engaging, the writing was phenomenal and you could easily immerse yourself in the story. I liked Luca and Isolde, and the internal battles they had(and everything they ever knew). I expected magic, like actual magic, but it was mostly about what people at that time thought was “magic”.This would be perfect for like 7/8 grader who is learning about the middle ages as a supplement, and I think it was written with that in mind. Overall great book, can’t wait to read the next one.

My thoughts :

PACKAGING

Packaging is pretty simple, very “classically” Garnie. Easy to open. I would prefer the packaging to be translucent or at least white, but you can’t have it all.

QUALITY AND MY HAIR AFTER USING IT

The quality (from what I can tell)is good. Very thick consistency, has a pleasant scent…but it’s strong, so not everyone will like it. This is perfect for very dry and dry hair, if you have an oily scalp…it’s not for you. As an oily scalp owner, but as someone who has very dry hairs (I dye my hair a LOT), this helped my hair be more healthy. But…it makes your scalp super oily. Overall, I liked it.

PROS
  • Affordable
  • Great gift idea
  • Amazing for dry hair
  • Travel friendly
CONS
  • it has a strong scent

This one was okay…Was it interesting? Yes. Would I read it again? Nope. Magic realism inspired fairytale about family, hope, and dreams. It has strong Lemony Snicket vibes and I loved it. Maren was an interesting main hero, she was a completed one (so not one-dimensional) and that’s amazing. Overall a good book for any middle grader.

Pretty simple pink plastic bottle with a black cap. The bottle is translucent,so that’s nice, you can see how much of the product is still left.

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue(Montague Siblings #1)by Mackenzi Lee- book review

joanna-kosinska-kKfVAvdBsAw-unsplash
29283884. sy475

Henry “Monty” Montague was born and bred to be a gentleman, but he was never one to be tamed. The finest boarding schools in England and the constant disapproval of his father haven’t been able to curb any of his roguish passions—not for gambling halls, late nights spent with a bottle of spirits, or waking up in the arms of women or men.

But as Monty embarks on his Grand Tour of Europe, his quest for a life filled with pleasure and vice is in danger of coming to an end. Not only does his father expect him to take over the family’s estate upon his return, but Monty is also nursing an impossible crush on his best friend and traveling companion, Percy.

Still it isn’t in Monty’s nature to give up. Even with his younger sister, Felicity, in tow, he vows to make this yearlong escapade one last hedonistic hurrah and flirt with Percy from Paris to Rome. But when one of Monty’s reckless decisions turns their trip abroad into a harrowing manhunt that spans across Europe, it calls into question everything he knows, including his relationship with the boy he adores.

OVERALL – 3/5 STARS

I know I know…everyone has read it like years ago, so I’m a little late to the party. So…What did I think? To be honest, because of the “hype” this book had I expected much more, but…it was just average. The writing style was good, but the plot was lacking. I wanted more of the world-building. But the romance in this book was cute,I liked it. Was it enjoyable? Yes! Will I ever reread it? No!

FAVORITE QUOTES FROM THE BOOK

“Nice to have you along, Felicity.” I clamp the pipe between my teeth and fish about in my pocket for the flint. “Remind me again where we’re permitted to drop you by the side of the road.”

❤

“How is it that we’ve landed the only bear-leader for hire who’s entirely entirely opposed to the true purpose of the Tour?”“Which is . . . remind me.”“Strong spirits and loose women.”“Sounds instead like it’s going to be weak wine with dinner and handling yourself in your bedroom after.”-

❤

“You are the thieves.”“Monty’s the thief,” Felicity says.“No, I am the second thief. Which I think cancels out my thievery.”

❤

They should be throwing gratitude and kindness and cream puffs at us, though I’d settle for just the cream puffs.

Official Focallure Aliexpress store: You can find this powder here

My thoughts :

PACKAGING

It came in a brand box with a seal, so you know it’s new and not opened before. It had the sticker with the scratch code of authenticity (just like mascara had). The “jar” is made from very sturdy plastic and the puff is of great quality. So I’m happy with the packaging.

QUALITY AND HOW IT APPLIES

I got the color 01 Ivory(Fa-15) and it’s perfect for my pale nordic skin. It’s a very light powder that really is perfect for oily skin, it keeps you matt ALL DAY. But…if you have some dry spots, it’s not for you it will not look good(trust me). I apply it with my powder brush from Aliexpress, but you can totally use the puff (I sometimes do it, when I’m at my boyfriend’s house and have forgotten the brush).

Overall I love this powder and have tried the 02 Natural color some years ago, at that time it was too dark for me, but I loved the texture…and I can say it’s still the same great quality. Can’t wait to try more stuff from this brand(I’m slowly getting obsessed)

PROS
  • long-lasting
  • Perfect for oily skin
  • Affordable
  • Great gift idea

CONS
  • it can “wash” you out

You can Find this product here :Aliexpress

My thoughts :

PACKAGING

The mascara came in a beautiful sealed box with all the ingrediant list and information. The actual mascara tube is made from very sturdy plastic.I really like that the parts Lashprimer and Mascara are labeled.

On the box you can find a QR code and scratch number to make sure your product is original . Such a great idea and truly ,mine was original! And of course the “best before” is a good thing too.

QUALITY AND HOW IT APPLIES

The first you put on Primer. I do around 3/4 coats of it on my lashes. It has little fibers in it ,and they do get into your eyes. It’s not the most pleasant experience, but it’s nothing critical.

After it, we get to the mascara. The want looks pretty average, but the way it’s curved…that’s something new. It’s slightly angled, so you can really get into the corners of your eyes.

What can I say about the application…it’s easy but time-consuming. It’s not bam and ready. You truly need like 5 min just for the mascara(and even more if you are using the primer), and in the mornings sometimes it’s not an option. Another not the greatest thing…it’s messy. But, it’s truly waterproof…like you can go swimming with it and it’s still in your eyes! And it tear-proof(I tested it a few times…don”t ask)

PROS
  • long-lasting
  • Waterproof
  • Affordable
  • Great gift idea
  • Travel friendly
CONS
  • It’s messy

Overall I really like it and liked it!It’s such a great mascara for summer.

Little Cruelties by Liz Nugent- book review

joanna-kosinska-kKfVAvdBsAw-unsplash

50892432This story begins with a funeral. One of three brothers is dead, mourned by his siblings. But which one? And how? And, most importantly: why?

William, Brian, and Luke are each born a year apart in a lower-middle-class Catholic family in 1960s Dublin. William, the eldest, rises to the top of the heap in the film industry as a successful movie producer. Luke, the baby of the family, surprises everyone by morphing into a worldwide pop star. Brian, the compliant middle son, is the eternal adult in the room: the helpful, steady one, the manager of finances and careers.

But none of them is actually quite what he seems. Wounded by childhood, they have betrayed one another in myriad ways, hiding behind little lies that have developed into full-blown treachery. With an unnerving eye for the complexities of families, Nugent delves into the secret life of a deeply troubled household and provides stunning insights into the many forces that shape us from childhood.

The story– 3/5

Setting of the book– 3/5

Smexy Times?– YES

OVERALL – 3/5 STARS

First of all, the synopsis is super misleading …it’s not a thriller, but a family drama. As a family drama, it was good. Really showed how our childhood and different events in our lives can make us who we are today. Did I like any of the brothers? No! Did I like the parents? No…Maybe that’s one of the reasons I wasn’t overall invested in this story. We got 3 different points of view, from all 3 of the brothers thru the ages. I usually don’t like the multiple points of view, but here it worked. So the plot… was executed pretty well, it was easy to ‘keep track” where you were in the story. I liked the writing style, very fast-paced. Overall a good family drama…but not what I expected, that’s why just 3 stars.

MY THOUGHTS

ALIVE 2020 Tumblr posts - Tumbral.comWOW! I’m impressed! The first zombie movie I actually enjoyed. Let’s start from the beginning … So on one of our date nights my boyfriend was browsing Netflix for something to watch together, and he found this one. I wasn’t really excited…because of zombies(I hate Zombies with a passion), but when I saw the actors…alive (2020) | Explore Tumblr Posts and Blogs | TumgirI knew we NEED to watch it. I loved Yoo Ah-In in Chicago Typewriter and the darling Park Shin-Hye (she was in kdramas like –Pinocchio , Flower Boy Next Door, Heartstrings) is my favorite actress EVER! And guys…THIS WAS AMAZING. Truly! The story was very interesting, and it had a unique thing- most of the “action” happens in an apartment complex. Was it gory? Yes! Was it overall gory? Yes and No! Like, it was bearable even for me a person who gets scared pretty easily. Overall I would recommend for you to check it out.

Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake (Love By Numbers #1) by Sarah MacLean -book review

joanna-kosinska-kKfVAvdBsAw-unsplash

6584134A lady does not smoke cheroot. She does not ride astride. She does not fence or attend duels. She does not fire a pistol, and she never gambles at a gentlemen’s club.

Lady Calpurnia Hartwell has always followed the rules, rules that have left her unmarried—and more than a little unsatisfied. And so she’s vowed to break the rules and live the life of pleasure she’s been missing.

But to dance every dance, to steal a midnight kiss—to do those things, Callie will need a willing partner. Someone who knows everything about rule-breaking. Someone like Gabriel St. John, the Marquess of Ralston—charming and devastatingly handsome, his wicked reputation matched only by his sinful smile.

If she’s not careful, she’ll break the most important rule of all—the one that says that pleasure-seekers should never fall hopelessly, desperately in love.

Smexy Times?– YES

OVERALL – 3,9/5 STARS

My first historical romance of the year! And it was pretty good...long, but good(and very quotable ) I read it in one sitting. The story was interesting, I liked Callie and Gabriel together (they did have amazing chemistry, so well done). Some parts did feel a little forced, but it didn’t spoil the story. Overall would recommend it if you love historical steamy romance.

FAVORITE QUOTES FROM THE BOOK

”Of course, one might argue that lurking in the darkness isn’t exactly ladylike.”
“Ah. There you have it wrong. I am not lurking in the darkness. I am hiding in it. Quite a different thing, altogether.”
❤“I shall endeavor to remember tea first, milk second. I should hate to cause another war between Britain and the Continent.”
❤
“You look quite lovely tonight.” Oxford leaned in, and his smile broadened. Was it possible that the man had more than the usual number of teeth?
❤“You forget one of the most important tenets of London society.”
“Which is?”
“Wealthy, unmarried marquesses are always welcome back into the light.”
❤
“Are you quoting the Bible to me?”
“Indeed,” she said primly, the portrait of piousness.
“While gambling.”
“What better location to attempt to reform one such as you?”
❤
“Never doubt how beautiful you are, Callie. For your beauty has quite ruined me for all others. And, frankly, I rather wish I’d found you years ago.”
❤
“Dear Lord,” Callie breathed.
“I’ve tried prayer myself,” Benedick said genially. “It doesn’t seem to work with her. I believe she’s made a deal with the Maker.”
